When people think of beauty pageants, the first thing that comes to mind is girls up on stage, decked out in their best attire with their makeup and hair expertly styled. On the other hand, some people take notice of the hard work, dedication, and preparation that goes into these events. The women involved are definitely independent and driven women
Amruta Mahadev Khedkar has recently participated in the Mission Dreams Miss India 2021 beauty pageant which going to be held in Mumbai. She hails from pune which is also known as Oxford of the East. By profession she is a banker and passionate about modelling. She says, “I love what I do and since childhood I used to glare on the TV screens whenever a model walked on the ramp. Growing up I cam to know that this is a powerful message to the society that women are their own advocates. I always say that pageants are not about changing yourself, they are about showcasing yourself. I am an extrovert and love to meet new people and make connections. I am often seen travelling which is one my best hobbies, it has helped me grow as a person.
Mission Dreams is carrying out this event in association with Habitat for humanity India supporting the cause of providing hygiene kits to girl child. Amruta just like other participants has participated to support the cause and walk down the ramp. Pageants provide a platform for these women to express themselves and their views on, and to look their best while doing it. Pageants are for empowered women who have a vision of making themselves stronger and better, and empower other women to do the same, and come together as one.” The focus on empowerment is something we could focus on more than just the physical beauty of the women who compete.
